Bakery Review 1 - Classic Bakery, Gaithersburg MD
I am a dessert person.
Who is not?
Oh wait...yeah then there is someone like my husband who at a party passes on his share of delicious rich cheesecake over to me. I don't mind it but do give him that weird look of "Are you serious?"
I am health conscious, with age I am becoming more of a conscious eater than a diet freak. Forty turns you into that kind of person who wants "reassurance" about every aspect of one's personality from all different quarters. I believe or, rather hope that if I follow the path of treating my body like a Ferrari and watch out for the type of gas or fuel I put in it, it will for sure run like that red car. But does that mean I have stopped eating dessert? No.
I do eat a huge piece of delicious strawberry cake or a generous portion of chocolate tiramisu but occasionally.
I am also not the type of person who opts for healthy versions of desserts. I like my before bedtime golden milk in whole milk instead of skim. Richard Sax has rightly said,
“And when all of the flourless chocolate cakes & chocolate mousse or ganache cakes have come and gone, there will still be nothing like a fudgy brownie, dry & crackled on top, moist & dense within, with a glass of cold milk.”
Last night, we had gone to Home Depot to get spare parts for the family room's table lamp. Suddenly I realized that within a mile or two was the famous bakery which has been talked about a lot in my friends' WhatsApp group. And the thought of being so close and yet so far kept bothering me. And when I need to get stuff done and am sure that hubby would get irked by that demand, I very subtly point it out to my daughters. And they take it from there. I very nicely get what the heart desire.
When we entered the corner bakery, the smell of almond cream frosting filled my nostrils. "It smells so good!" muttered one of my daughter. Once inside, the little shop seemed like a family owned business. The glass display case was full of colorful holiday cookies, gorgeous cakes, and pastries. There was a great selection of savory and loaves of sweetbreads. Because it was my first time at this place, I opted to buy a few pieces - Coconut Cake, Black Forest, Strawbery Cream, Tiramisu, Napolean, and Vanilla Eclair. I was so excited about the treats in this cute little white box in my lap on my way home that, I started eating it in the car. And boy I was not disheartened, it melted in my mouth, the right mix of sugar and cream. It was delicious! This is going to be THE bakery for my family. They do make cakes for occasions like birthdays, anniversaries, and just for fun because you felt like ordering one for a Saturday movie night with your girls.
Stars - ****
WIll I be going back? - Heck Yeah!!!
In the end, I would like to say that significant decisions could be made over desserts but then,
“In the middle of a dessert, no one talks about the virtues of the Sun!”
