Restaurant Review 3 - Yekta, Rockville MD

My family bond over food and I am in a continuous effort to get into great shape, lose about 30 pounds. I am sure you can see where I am going wrong in my journey to loose weight. So, people, I keep emphasizing the fact that it is not how many times you eat BUT what you are putting in your body. I am learning, I am no expert on it. What I know for sure is, my body. I know how it reacts to certain foods. Be mindful of it, listen to and respect what your body says.
That being said, last weekend we were at Earth Trecks, Rockville. It is an indoor rock climbing place. My twins who are now 18 years old are not into sports. I would love them to be so an effort in this new year to involve ourselves as a family more into outdoorsey activities. We loved it but soon after an hour or so we were H..U...N..G..R..Y.
Anil mentioned a place suggested by his friend, YEKTA KABOBI RESTAURANT. The family agreed instantly on it, what's not to love - rice, yogurt, kabobs.
On reaching the restaurant, what caught my eye was the market next tot eh restaurant. It is a Persian market with native grocery and vegetables. The entrance fo the restaurant is from the grocery store. The gorgeous room impressed my creative eye! The wall had a large mural of an Iranian guy in a marketplace, and the roof had colorful art. The room adorned by huge crystal chandeliers reminded me of Indian homes. And, the colorful glass windows let the light in, filling the room in different gorgeous colors. The white linen on the tables made me feel as if (I know it is way off, but I am a Jane Austen fan) I was about to dine with one of the Bennett sisters). Warm wood and colored glass windows, white linened tables and chandeliers made the place appear regal.
We ordered less food because that is what is one of mour new years resolutions. We plan to finish everything at the restaurant rather than bringing it home to eat it next day. Whatever we ordered, was great adn delicious.
Our Order:
Vegetarian Kabob platter for me
Chicken Kabob platter for Vara
Lamb Kabob platter for Lara
and,
An extra plate for Anil
(decided that he would share from all three dishes)
we also ordered,
Doogh -
Kashke Bademjan - fried eggplant with fermented whey, onions, and mint
Shirazi - chopped Persian cucumber, tomato, onion and mint with red wine vinegar dressing
The food was excellent! I loved it!
Because I have eaten at other Persian restaurants, I was expecting a few things complimentary like a bottomless basket of freshly baked bread with butter and spicy green pepper chutney (which I had to order separately and pay for it) and a pitcher of Doogh for the family rather than a glass. The serving size is smaller than the other places I have been to.
For the people who have never tried Persian food, the staples of this cuisine are wheat bread and long-grain white rice with serving of yogurt, lamb, and eggplant. Flavors are subtle, with cinnamon, cloves, turmeric, cardamom, and saffron.
After lunch, I explored the grocery store and got few boxes of persian desserts like Baklava.
