What’s cooking? - Red Kidney Beans curry

Rajma Chawal as we most of the Indians call it is a protein-rich Red Kidney Beans curry.
I remember this being the "Sunday Lunch". We never had it on a weekday, wonder why? Similar to 99% of the kids in India, I didn't have any say in selecting what I wanted to eat or not, it majorly depended on what the cook and mom had in mind. I guess we loved that set up because if you ask me now the most difficult part of cooking dinner or lunch is the planning - What to cook?

I looked forward to Rajma chawal every weekend. It is one of my favorite dishes. Like our home, in delhi or north Indian punjabi households it was the dishe that would surface on the table as a sunday lunch special. I love it with a side of salad (onions with green chilies sprinkled with salt and lemon juice) and pickle. I still, after so many years, eat the same way. I find it very easy to cook. It is a true Punjabi style recipe. Some like it hot while some with lesser masala. The curry varies from house to house.

So, when I saw the title "Rajma Chawal" while browsing Netflix, I was very excited to watch the movie by the same name.  Accordinging to the Netflix (original Indian movie), it is "about a dad hoping to revive his relationship with his resentful millennial son, an internet-rookie widower assumes the online persona of a young woman." I haven't watched it yet, if you are interested in the movie, know more about it here:
