Restaurant Review 2 - Thai House, Gaithersburg MD
I oftentimes joke with my friends about my stay in Bangkok. It is a city in Thailand. Being from India, I spent my "independent" years in Bangkok. In New Delhi, I was living under the guidance of my parents, not much decision making or developing an interest in things on my own. So when I landed in Bangkok, after getting married, it was a cultural shock (even though I moved from one Asian country to another). It didn't take much time for me to fall in love with the place, people and the food. From being a total vegetarian, where the family did not use even onion or garlic for that matter, to craving meat was a journey that started in this country that is often called, "The land of smiles." One day enjoying dinner at a restaurant on the lake, my friend (a girl from Pakistan married to a boy from Britain) asked me to taste shrimp. The thought made me puke, but then everyone at the table started the chant, "eat it..eat it". The took the dare and ate the poor little shrimp. LOVED it.... And this was the beginning of my non-vegetarian life. It wouldn't be incorrect if I say that I take my thai food very very seriously. Now on to the review of the Thai food I had over the weekend at the local place on Snouffer School Road in Gaithersburg, Thai House.
We were hungry, and it was 7:45 pm on a Saturday night. The plan was to cook dinner, but somehow we landed at Home Depot looking for video doorbell. Off went my mood to cook and in came the desire to rent Oceans 12 on Amazon Prime. The question was, "Where to go for dinner?" One of my daughters took Google's help to find a 4-star place near us. Snouffer School Road, I was little apprehensive about the quality of food, but we decided to give it a try.
Review: A small place nestled in the strip mall off Snouffer School Rd. Surrounded by other restaurants, it doesn't look much from outside. The surprise came when we entered the place, tiny but full of people. Happy people, eating, having the conversation, laughing....I saw tables full thai people which is kind of great because that shows that the food is authentic. We ordered little food, not that many dishes (that's how we roll...when we go to the place for the very first time we avoid ordering a whole lot of food, this in a way helps to deal with the disappointment if the food is not good), And my reviews are not sponsored, that means that I have to pay for what I order and eat.
What we ordered:
Appetizers:
Somtam (Papaya Salad) - *** (decent)
Tod Mun Pla (Fish cakes) - **** (pretty good)

Will I go back? - YES
Staff is excellent, food is nice, the vibe is warm, it is crowded which means people love it, and the serving size is large enough.
